And just like that, there were just two weeks left in the regular season.
It’s a big weekend, with teams looking to wrap up league titles or start building the momentum towards the playoffs. We will also get the sectional draw on Sunday, which will further interest everyone heading into Week 9, almost superseding what goes down on the final Friday prior to elimination time.
Let’s enjoy Week 8 while it lasts, and Blitz’s picks after a tremendous Week 7.
Last week: 19-1 (.950)
Overall: 126-29 (.812)
BISHOP DWENGER AT SNIDER. The Panthers have won three straight in the series and the offense has found itself in the last few weeks in lopsided victories over Homestead and Northrop. Bishop Dwenger’s defense was exceptional in the rivalry win over Bishop Luers, but Snider has a better offense than the Knights. The Saints need to force some turnovers to have a shot. BLITZ SAYS SNIDER BY 14.
BISHOP LUERS AT SOUTH SIDE. A short jaunt down Calhoun St. for the Knights, who are looking to wrap up another undefeated season in the SAC Small Division. The Luers offense hasn’t exactly been dynamic, but South is going to struggle to contain Daryea Williams on the ground. BLITZ SAYS BISHOP LUERS BY 15.
NORTH SIDE AT WAYNE. The best game of the week in the SAC. North Side’s offense has hit some roadblocks in recent weeks, while Harold Mack seems to be growing ever more comfortable with each passing game at quarterback. This may come down to which QB makes more plays, Mack or North’s Tristen Newsome. BLITZ SAYS WAYNE BY 2.
NORTHROP AT CARROLL. The Northrop defense has allowed 36 or more points in all but one game this season, when North put up 29 in Week 5. Even with some big plays from David Callison and his cadre of wideouts, the Bruins won’t be able to get enough defensive stops to keep this one close. BLITZ SAYS CARROLL BY 31.
HOMESTEAD AT CONCORDIA LUTHERAN. After another humbling loss to its rival, Homestead looks to rebound against a team it has never lost to. The Spartans are a perfect 9-0 against the Cadets all-time. BLITZ SAYS HOMESTEAD BY 21.
BELLMONT AT DEKALB. DeKalb is the second-lowest scoring team in the NE8 in league play. Yet it’s scored 83 more points in conference games than Bellmont. BLITZ SAYS DEKALB BY 42.
EAST NOBLE AT NEW HAVEN. Letdown game for East Noble? Not that it would lose, but perhaps a slow start? Last time the Knights came off a big win was Week 6 against Norwell, one week after the Leo dub. East Noble pitched a 42-0 shutout. No, no letdown. BLITZ SAYS EAST NOBLE BY 28.
LEO AT COLUMBIA CITY. In terms of bouncing back, can Columbia City after being routed by East Noble last week? The Eagles have to prove that they are not a one-dimensional team with its running game. BLITZ SAYS LEO BY 14.
NORWELL AT HUNTINGTON NORTH. The offense continues to be vastly improved for the Vikings this season. Even in a loss last week at Leo, they were able to move the ball and put up some points. Should be a good night to put up some yardage on the ground for HN. BLITZ SAYS HUNTINGTON NORTH BY 17.
BLUFFTON AT ADAMS CENTRAL. The shine has been taken off this game a bit after Heritage had its way with Bluffton last week. Since falling in Week 1, AC has won six straight by an average of 32 points. BLITZ SAYS ADAMS CENTRAL BY 22.
LAPEL AT JAY COUNTY. Junior quarterback Devin Craig has thrown for 1,868 yards and 19 touchdowns this season for Lapel, which has already beaten a pair of 3A opponents this year. This isn’t a good matchup for the Patriots. BLITZ SAYS LAPEL BY 16.
SOUTHERN WELLS AT HERITAGE. Another big night on tap for the Heritage offense. BLITZ SAYS HERITAGE BY 44.
WOODLAN AT SOUTH ADAMS. Woodlan is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the near future. For now, South Adams is better. BLITZ SAYS SOUTH ADAMS BY 12.
ANGOLA AT GARRETT. The Hornets rely on a ground game averaging 252 yards per contest for their offense. How did that work for West Noble, another run-heavy team, against Garrett? BLITZ SAYS GARRETT BY 23.
CHURUBUSCO AT WEST NOBLE. This one will be interesting, because Churubusco is going to have to deal with deeper teams in its 2A sectional with Adams Central and Bluffton looming. How does the Eagles defense do against Seth Pruitt and the West Noble running game? BLITZ SAYS WEST NOBLE BY 11.
EASTSIDE AT CENTRAL NOBLE. The Blazers are getting healthy and are a team to watch entering the playoffs. Eastside has won 16 straight in the series. BLITZ SAYS EASTSIDE BY 22.
LAKELAND AT FAIRFIELD. Lakeland is still stinging from last week’s blowout loss to West Noble. That is a problem for a Fairfield defense that has not held a single opponent under 20 points this season. BLITZ SAYS LAKELAND BY 24.
PRAIRIE HEIGHTS AT FREMONT. This will be a fun game as it pits two teams with similar skill sets against each other. Heights should be able to make some plays in the passing game, which will be the difference. BLITZ SAYS PRAIRIE HEIGHTS BY 6.
WARSAW AT NORTHWOOD. This isn’t a Northwood team like the last few years, but it still is pretty solid when you look at the strength of schedule despite being 3-4. The Tigers regained their mojo last week and should be able to take it on the road with em. BLITZ SAYS WARSAW BY 8.
GREENWOOD CHRISTIAN AT BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN. A Saturday noon start at Zollner Stadium for the Braves. Junior QB Trey Dobson has accumulated over 2,000 yards of total offense and 26 touchdowns for Greenwood Christian this year. That’s going to be tough to stop. BLITZ SAYS GREENWOOD CHRISTIAN BY 40.
