Coach Casey Kolkman resigns from Heritage, takes admin position at Bluffton

Casey Kolkman looks on during Heritage’s game against South Adams on September 9, 2022.

Outside the Huddle has learned that Heritage High School football coach Casey Kolkman has stepped down.

On Monday evening, he was approved by the Bluffton-Harrison Metropolitan School District to fulfill an administrative role within Bluffton Jr./Sr. High School.

It is understood that Kolkman will join the coaching staff of Bluffton coach Brent Kunkel in addition to his administrative duties.

Kolkman coached four seasons at Heritage, taking his alma mater from the bottom of the Allen County Athletic Conference to a runner-up finish to Adams Central in 2023. The nine victories by the Patriots last season were the most for the program since 2012.

“It is the right time for me and my family,” Kolkman said in a release. “I can step back and be a dad while still being involved in the lives of young people.

“God has provided an opportunity for me to be available for my eight-year-old son, as well as my aging father and father-in-law. I  returned to Heritage in 2020, candidly, because the Lord led me there. I’m confident in my assistants, student-athletes, and the community. The football program is in excellent hands.”

The four years at Heritage was the latest reclamation project for Kolkman, who also spent time rebuilding North Side from 2004-09. He now returns to Bluffton, where he was head coach from 2010-13 and compiled a 17-25 record.
