Outside the Huddle confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that East Noble coach Luke Amstutz has stepped down from his position leading the Knights’ football program.
But Amstutz is not going anywhere, as he will now lead the athletics department as East Noble’s new athletic director, replacing the departed Nick David.
“Being the head football coach at East Noble has been the most incredible experience of my career,” said Amstutz in a statement. “Being entrusted with the young men we have coached has been an honor of a lifetime.
“I am so deeply proud of all we have accomplished together and look forward to my new role in which I can work to serve all of our programs and students at East Noble.”
Amstutz led the Knights for a dozen seasons beginning in 2012, with just a single losing season (2022) over that time. East Noble won a pair of sectional championships under Amstutz, with a trip to the Class 4A state title game in 2019 a program highlight. It was just the third trip to the state championship in program history and first since 2003.
The Knights captured four Northeast Eight championships under Amstutz, including three straight from 2017-19 and four of five from 2015-19.
Amstutz went 98-37 at East Noble, with his winning percentage of .725 the highest in program history. Combined with his four years leading the Angola program from 2008-11, Amstutz holds an overall coaching record of 124-52 (.704).
A search for the next head coach at East Noble has already begun.
