Each week, Bounce will pick the results of a handful of the best girls games and handful of the best boys games in the area.
Let’s be honest, last week felt a bit rusty. Bounce went too safe and it cost him. Let’s all pretend that I didn’t do that bad last week and I promise I’ll try to do better. Looking at you Bellmont.
LAST WEEK: 3-6
OVERALL: 3-6
GIRLS
Woodlan at Eastside, Tuesday
Two teams with really hot starts to their seasons with a combined 9-2 record going into this game. But they are also both coming off their first loss of the season. Who can respond best in this one? Woodlan feels like the more complete team, but its not easy to win in Butler. Sleeper pick for game of the week. BOUNCE PICKS WOODLAN
DeKalb at Carroll, Tuesday
Another school coming off their first loss in DeKalb but Carroll feels a lot better than 1-6. Lily George has been solid for Carroll, Ashley Cox has been tremendous for DeKalb. BOUNCE PICKS DEKALB
Bishop Luers at Lakewood Park, Thursday
Ava McGrade has established herself as one of the top players in the area so far this season. She has been an absolute menace. That said, Luers has stayed zoned in to start this season and they really do feel like they are on a mission. I like what they are doing at LP, but…BOUNCE PICKS BISHOP LUERS
Huntington North at Norwell, Friday
The start of the NE8 conference season and this is one of two fun games late this week. Norwell has been so good, they have three high level scorers and unless you are fantastic at guarding the three, the Knights can light you up. BOUNCE PICKS NORWELL
Carroll at Homestead, Friday
The rivalry game has some lacking luster this season ONLY because of Carroll’s record to start the season versus a still on brand Homestead, who is winning at a usual rate. This is still a rivalry and in a rivalry, most bets are off. Most, not all. BOUNCE PICKS HOMESTEAD
DeKalb at Bellmont, Saturday
There are actually few games in the area in any conference this season as intriguing as this. DeKalb is very underrated right now when we talk about the NE8 race. They deserve to be in the conversation. Emily Bleke has been really good for Bellmont with nearly a double double average. BOUNCE PICKS BELLMONT
Northrop at Noblesville, Saturday
I love these Saturday out of area matchups. These are the things that strengthen Northeast Indiana teams for the postseason. Northrop needs to play this game for that reason and I fully expect them to flex a depth that has been impressive this season. BOUNCE PICKS NORTHROP
BOYS
Bellmont at Concordia, Tuesday
Is Bellmont really mad at Bounce? Here is a reminder, who else had the Braves as a contender in the NE8? I’ll wait. Sure I picked against them once last week and missed. Here, they run up against an intriguing Cadets team. But don’t worry Bellmont, you are more intriguing. BOUNCE PICKS BELLMONT
Blackhawk Christian at North Side, Tuesday
This game is always fun and Tuesday will be no different. We will get to see a lot about who these teams are. Blackhawk graduated a lot and North Side is without Tae Tae. Is it a toss up? Is it lopsided? Honestly, I am not sure I even know the answer to that. BOUNCE PICKS NORTH SIDE
Garrett at Woodlan, Tuesday
Garrett has started 2-0 and that may not seem like a big thing but it is the first 2-0 start for the Railroaders since 2015. To get to 3-0 (last done in 2011), they get a beastly Woodlan team who is going to be coming in with revenge on their mind after a loss to Bellmont last weekend that killed some opening night momentum. Braden Smith on a mission scares me even. Garrett keeps this closer than many expect, they are a much improved team. BOUNCE PICKS WOODLAN
North Side at DeKalb, Friday
DeKalb is another team with a nice quick start to the season, something they will be game to defend on Friday in a major clash of styles. DeKalb’s experience on the wing stands out while North Side’s length is an issue. Can the DeKalb interior handle that? BOUNCE PICKS NORTH SIDE
Blackhawk Christian at New Haven, Friday
Give it Blackhawk Christian, they rarely start with an easy schedule and this is not an easy week. Ajani Washington torched Woodlan in a loss last week and that is something he probably is likely to do to anyone on the New Haven schedule this season. I really don’t see BC losing two straight to start the season, so does this one depend on how Tuesday’s opener goes? BOUNCE PICKS BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN
Homestead at Warsaw, Friday
Warsaw is coming off a nice win over Columbia City and Homestead is a team who maybe found some new identity in their opening night win last week at Huntington North. The Spartans have some good young guns that are putting in major work and I like it. BOUNCE PICKS HOMESTEAD
Wayne at Ben Davis, Saturday at Brownsburg
Fort Wayne versus everyone? This is our best. Ben Davis is always good. But to me, I am not even considering going against Wayne until there is a sign I should. BOUNCE PICKS WAYNE
