Bounce’s Picks for the Week of February 7

We are now strictly into the boys side with this weekly column as the girls head to Regional Saturday.

Conference races are hitting the home stretch and some will be decided by this weekend.

Last week: 7-1

2022-23 record: 124-45 (.734)

Angola at Leo, Tuesday

This non-conference matchup should give some insight to how competitive the sectional at Garrett will be. Neither of these teams will be the favorite but can either one of them sneak up and surprise one of the top teams. These two are evenly matched but the Lions are the deeper team. BOUNCE PICKS LEO

North Side at Carroll, Tuesday

A loss by either team effectively eliminates them from contention in the SAC race but the winner still needs a lot of help from the teams above them in the standings. Bounce likes Carroll’s defense more than North’s. BOUNCE PICKS CARROLL

Wayne at Homestead, Tuesday

The Generals are picking up steam at the right time and have won five straight. They need to make it six in a row to create a three-way atop the SAC. The Spartans have had some time off. Does that help them create more chemistry on offense? It might but the Generals are too skilled and have too many options to slow them down. BOUNCE PICKS WAYNE

Goshen at Lakeland, Tuesday

This should be a fun non-conference game to keep an eye on. The RedHawks have a flair for the dramatic as they won multiple times at the buzzer. Bounce loves the Lakers grittiness and believes this squad is going to be a tough out in the postseason. BOUNCE PICKS LAKELAND

NorthWood at West Noble, Tuesday

The Panthers have been a thorn in the Chargers’ side for the last few years and this a sectional championship preview. Austin Cripe versus Cade Brenner might be one of the best individual battles to watch all season. Bradyn Barth’s growth gives West Noble a better chance to finally beat NorthWood. The Panthers get this one but it could be a different story in the postseason. BOUNCE PICKS NORTHWOOD

Concordia at Homestead, Friday

No matter the result of the Spartans’ contest against Wayne earlier in the week, this game will be important in deciding the SAC. Both teams have been stellar on the defensive end and the Cadets have really improved on the offense end, but Homestead won’t lose two important games in a row, right? BOUNCE PICKS HOMESTEAD

Heritage at Jay County, Friday

There’s a lot on the line in Portland in this all-Patriot battle on Friday night. The winner claims at least a share of the ACAC title and could be the outright winner if South Adams pulls off the upset over Adams Central. The last time these played was in the first round of the conference tournament and it was a very low-scoring game. It will probably be once again and end with the same team winning. BOUNCE PICKS HERITAGE

Prairie Heights at Westview, Friday

A battle for second place in the NECC might not sound like a super sexy matchup, but it wouldn’t surprise Bounce if either of these teams is hoisting a sectional championship trophy in early March. Prairie Heights’ length will give the Warriors trouble. BOUNCE PICKS PRAIRIE HEIGHTS
