Girls basketball’s regular season has come to an end and that means that Sectional play starts this week.

How far teams in the area may be able to go this season is yet to be seen. But what we do know is that champions will be crowned on Saturday night and Bounce is here to tell you who he thinks hoists those trophies, who they beat to win the hardware and how they got there in the first place.

CLASS 1A BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN SECTIONAL

This sectional is a two-horse race and it’s unfortunate that the two best teams are pitted against one another in the semifinals. Bethany Christian is favorite to beat Blackhawk Christian and win the sectional. The Bruins defeated the Braves handily earlier this month.

Junior Zoe Willems can do it all for Bethany as the team’s leading scorer and rebounder. Mariah Stoltzfus and Kiersten Todd give the Bruins options no other team in this sectional have. Stoltzfus is a menace on defense.

Lakewood Park will roll Hamilton and has too much size for Elkhart Christian to stop in the semifinal. The Panthers lost to the Bruins by 23 in the regular season and Bounce doesn’t think Lakewood Park can close the gap and compete for four quarters.

FINAL PREDICTION: Bethany Christian beats Lakewood Park

CLASS 1A SOUTHERN WELLS SECTIONAL

The two local teams in the sectional will struggle. Canterbury has won just two games all season and face the favorite to win the sectional, Southwood.

Southern Wells will make it a game against Lakeland Christian. The Raiders just took Southwood to overtime last Tuesday but they’ve been too inconsistent for me to confidently pick them for the upset.

FINAL PREDICTION: Southwood over Lakeland Christian
