Bounce’s Picks for the week of January 24

We are in the final week of the girls basketball season and it has just flown by. So here we are with some picks for them and of course for the boys as they turn down the home stretch themselves.

Last week: 11-4

2022-23 record: 110-38 (.743)

Girls

Columbia City at Northrop, Tuesday

This one is about as big as you can get in terms of a regular season matchup between two area teams. Both are ranked in the top 10 in Class 4A and both will likely be the favorite to win a sectional title next week. Can the Eagles’ staunch defense slow down the Bruins? Northrop has been held under 60 points just three times this season. Bounce thinks this will be lower scoring which gives Columbia City a real fighting chance. But just not enough to take down the area’s best. BOUNCE PICKS NORTHROP

Elkhart at Warsaw, Tuesday

A good sectional tune-up for the Tigers, who are in a loaded sectional. So Warsaw needs all the momentum it can get. BOUNCE PICKS WARSAW

Blackhawk Christian at Eastside, Tuesday

The Braves and Blazers have faced some good competition down the stretch, which should help come next week. Eastside will be able to matchup with the Braves and it has the better defense. BOUNCE PICKS EASTSIDE

Norwell at Blackford, Tuesday

Blackford has had a really good season but it hasn’t seen a team like Norwell all season. The Knights should take care of business. BOUNCE PICKS NORWELL

Angola at Bellmont, Wednesday

The Hornets have played better the second half of the season, even without one of its top players in Leah Snyder who is out for the rest of the season. Bellmont has been really close to taking down some of the area’s best teams in recent weeks and are going to be really dangerous in next week’s sectional at Norwell. BOUNCE PICKS BELLMONT

Carroll at Snider, Friday

Snider has to win to give itself a chance at a share of the SAC title. It won’t be able to scoreboard watch as Homestead and Northrop are playing at the same time about six miles away. Snider has continued to play at a really high level since the loss to Northrop earlier this month. BOUNCE PICKS SNIDER

Homestead at Northrop, Friday

The Spartans can crash the party and share the SAC title with Northrop with a win. The Bruins can claim the championship outright with a win. The Bruins have been the better team all season and will show why on Friday night. BOUNCE PICKS NORTHROP

Boys

Central Noble at Concordia, Tuesday

The Cougars have done a good job of beefing up their schedule under John Bodey. Both teams are tough on the defensive end, but Central Noble will have a hard time slowing down Ajani Washington. BOUNCE PICKS CONCORDIA

Lakeland at Columbia City, Tuesday

The Lakers are no longer a surprise. They’ve competed against some of the better teams on its schedule. Columbia City has played a tougher schedule and won’t be surprised by Lakeland. BOUNCE PICKS COLUMBIA CITY

Norwell at Bishop Luers, Tuesday

An all-Knights matchup that is intriguing. Luers has played well against some of the top teams in the area but Norwell is playing at another level that will be tough to match. BOUNCE PICKS NORWELL

Concordia at North Side, Friday

A loss by either team would give them a second conference loss and more than likely eliminate them from title contention. If the Legends can shoot consistently from deep, they should give the Cadets some real fits. BOUNCE PICKS NORTH SIDE

NorthWood at Warsaw, Friday

The Tigers can create a mess at the top of the NLC standings with an upset over the Panthers. But NorthWood is too deep for Warsaw to challenge for four quarters. BOUNCE PICKS NORTHWOOD

Bellmont at Leo, Saturday

The Braves are still winless in conference play. Bounce picked them to get their first NE8 win last week and they let him down. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. BOUNCE PICKS LEO

Blackhawk Christian at Wayne, Saturday

This should be one of the more entertaining boys games of the weekend. Both teams love to get up and down the floor and score quickly. The Braves have the size and depth to match the Generals, and they have the better defense. BOUNCE PICKS BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN
