Bounce’s Picks for the Week of January 2

Hello 2023.

Big things are on the horizon as girls basketball goes through the second half and we get the ACAC and NECC Tournaments.

Before we get there, a lot of great matchups make up a fantastic first week of hoops in the new year.

2022-23 Record: 70-29 (.707)

Girls

Carroll at Norwell, Tuesday

The Chargers have struggled against some of the better teams on their schedule. Norwell is one of those better teams. BOUNCE PICKS NORWELL

Huntington North at Eastbrook, Tuesday

The Vikings have taken their play to another level and could still create some chaos in the Northeast 8. This non-conference tilt will help keep them sharp as their schedule gets more difficult. BOUNCE PICKS HUNTINGTON NORTH

Jay County at Concordia, Tuesday

The Patriots have won their last 10 games by double digits and should do so once again against the Cadets. BOUNCE PICKS JAY COUNTY

Northridge at Northrop, Wednesday

The Bruins have rarely been tested this season. This one and another important conference battle later on in the week will be good tests. Northrop should pass both. BOUNCE PICKS NORTHROP

Blackhawk Christian at Woodlan, Thursday

The Braves competed very well against some good competition over the holidays and they needed it. The Warriors have won five straight and need another good test before the ACAC tournament next week. BOUNCE PICKS WOODLAN

Bellmont at Columbia City, Friday

This is a battle of the last two unbeatens in the Northeast 8. The Eagles have played a much more difficult schedule and should be better for it, including games like this one. BOUNCE PICKS COLUMBIA CITY

Central Noble at Garrett, Friday

The Cougars have proved their one of the possible favorites for the conference tournament next week while the Railroaders are in the next category of contenders. Central Noble has been overwhelming at times but Garrett should keep it close. BOUNCE PICKS CENTRAL NOBLE

Fairfield at Eastside, Friday

Another battle of conference unbeatens. The Blazers will try to control the tempo in this one but the Falcons will be too much to stop. BOUNCE PICKS FAIRFIELD

Boys

Columbia City at NorthWood, Tuesday

Both teams faced some high-level competition over the break. The battle between Andrew Hedrick and Cade Brenner should be highly entertaining but the Panthers have too many playmakers. BOUNCE PICKS NORTHWOOD

Blackhawk Christian at South Bend St. Joseph, Tuesday

The Braves love to run and score. That’s bad news for the Indians. BOUNCE PICKS BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN

Central Noble at Garrett, Friday

The Railroaders are pesky and are going to surprise more and more teams the rest of the season. But the Cougars won’t be one of those teams. BOUNCE PICKS CENTRAL NOBLE

Bishop Luers at Concordia, Friday

The Knights have stumbled after a strong start to the season. The Cadets have remained consistent and Bounce loves consistency. BOUNCE PICKS CONCORDIA

Wayne at North Side, Friday

Bounce wishes the Legends were at full strength for this one but they should still be able to keep pace with the Generals. However, Wayne’s depth takes over in the end. BOUNCE PICKS WAYNE

Lakeland at West Noble, Friday

The Chargers are the lone unbeaten in the NECC and will get everyone’s best shot every single night. The Lakers are capable of an upset but West Noble knows it can’t let up. BOUNCE PICKS WEST NOBLE

Adams Central at Jay County, Saturday

Both teams desperately need this one. Neither team has had a good start to the season. With the conference tournament around the corner, this one is crucial. BOUNCE PICKS ADAMS CENTRAL

Norwell at Leo, Saturday

Two of the best scorers in the conference and the area will face off in this one. Luke McBride for Norwell and Jackson McGee for Leo are both capable of going for 30 or more. Bounce hopes they both bring it. BOUNCE PICKS NORWELL
