Coach Mike Eshbach resigns after one season at Concordia Lutheran

Mike Eshbach works with his team while coaching Concordia Lutheran during last summer’s OPS 7v7 shootout at Columbia City.

Athletic Director Tim Mannigel confirmed on Monday that Mike Eshbach has resigned as head football coach after one season.

“He turned his resignation in on Friday,” Mannigel said.

Eshbach coached the Cadets to a 2-8 campaign in his lone year with the team, with victories over South Side and Northwestern. The season came to an end with a 27-0 loss to Norwell in sectional play.

Eshbach came to Concordia Lutheran after a few years off following a two-year stint at Wawasee. He is best known for his nine years at Eastside from 2008-16.

Overall, Eshbach holds a 55-80 career record over 13 seasons.

The Cadets have some pieces to build around for 2022, including quarterback Eli Mattox, who threw for 1,682 yards and 15 TDs as a junior. Defensive stalwarts James Rusher, Landon Kaschinske and Tunmise Okeowo are also set to return.
