Bounce’s Picks for the week of January 10-15

A special week with some big games and a pair of conference tournaments. Check out the previews later for those tournaments, but here we will be picking a few non tournament games.

*Unlike Blitz, we aren’t picking spreads here…just winners

LAST WEEK: 9-10

2021-22 RECORD: 91-42

GIRLS

Wawasee at Columbia City, Tuesday

This one could be a trap game if the Eagles aren’t careful. Sandwiched between the two toughest NE8 games of the season, Columbia City will need to remain sharp. BOUNCE PICKS COLUMBIA CITY

Snider at Bishop Luers, Wednesday

The Knights could be a team that could pull an upset. We talk about possible trap games this week and Snider can’t afford to look ahead to Friday here. The Knights are dangerous but Snider is better. BOUNCE PICKS SNIDER

Wayne at Huntington North, Wednesday

Can the pace of Wayne be an issue here? The Vikings didn’t let that be a problem in previous games with fast paced SAC teams. A win here is gigantic for Wayne, but it will be tough on the road. BOUNCE PICKS HUNTINGTON NORTH

Northrop at Bellmont, Thursday

Bellmont is not an easy place to win and they have the fundamental play to really be a thorn in Northrop’s side. This game comes down to who rebounds the basketball better and the Decatur faithful will need to hope there is a way to isolate the Jackson twins from controlling the glass. BOUNCE PICKS NORTHROP

Bishop Luers at Carroll, Friday

Another quality game for the Knights this week, another uphill battle. We’ve seen Carroll players really settle into scoring and they have depth in that. Last week alone there were monster games for Taylor Fordyce and Jasmine Anderson. BOUNCE PICKS CARROLL

Snider at Homestead, Friday

Here we go. This isn’t, based on statistics, for the SAC title. But, lets be honest this is basically for the SAC title. The teams are a combined 11-0 in conference and both ranked well in the state. Snider’s upset over Homestead last season was one of the best games of the season and this could be one of the best of 2022. Same result? That is tough. BOUNCE PICKS HOMESTEAD

Bellmont at Norwell, Saturday

Always one of the best games in the NE8 and this year it is more for postseason momentum and positioning. Bellmont plays aggressive and can force Norwell outside to have to shoot and convert. The Knights have shown they can do that but consistently enough? BOUNCE PICKS NORWELL

BOYS

Carroll at DeKalb, Tuesday

Marty Beasley’s former team. Marty Beasley’s current team. BOUNCE PICKS DEKALB

Homestead at Blackhawk Christian, Tuesday

This is always fun right? We expect this to be one of the best games in the are every year and don’t expect this one to be different. Homestead is ranked higher and rightfully so, but do they have the scoring depth of the Braves? Lewis Jones’ breakout season has been big in keeping Blackhawk unbeaten. I’m rolling the dice here. BOUNCE PICKS BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN

Norwell at Wayne, Tuesday

Jevon Lewis had monster games last week, but the Generals fell. He is highly underrated and that has been proven time and time again. The combo guard can score from anywhere and if he does so here, his stock will continue to rise against a tough defensive team. Luke McBride will match him though and Norwell has more weapons at this point. BOUNCE PICKS NORWELL

Warsaw at Penn, Tuesday

The Tigers visit former longtime coach Al Rhoades, who is searching for career win 650 in this one. Penn is one of the toughest teams on Warsaw’s schedule and while. I respect the seasons that Jaxson Gould and Judah Simfukwe are putting together, the Kingsmen at home with Rhoades about to reach that that mark is a toughy. BOUNCE PICKS PENN

DeKalb at East Noble, Friday

Two teams who could really make nice runs towards the playoffs. I could be like my football counterpart and just make a pick here to mess with one team, but would I really do that to Kendallville. Here is to hoping for a Chris Hood three pointer I asked for four Christmas. Either way, I like the host in the Big Blue Pit with Spencer Denton being a difference maker while the inside play is a tough battle. BOUNCE PICKS EAST NOBLE

North Side at Northrop, Friday

Well Northrop fooled me last week. Bounce isn’t the fool twice. BOUNCE PICKS NORTH SIDE

Snider at Homestead, Friday

Homestead could be a tough out on Friday, well any night really. But if they lose Tuesday they will be fired up for this conference game; if they win Tuesday, there is a lot of momentum here. I don’t think that the Spartans will want to get out and run with Snider and that only benefits the home team. BOUNCE PICKS HOMESTEAD

Leo at New Haven, Friday

Another traditional big battle. New Haven has scored a lot of points but there haven’t been as many wins attached to the offense of Darrion Brooks and Jakar Williams. The Bulldogs need to isolate the Leo bigs, but if the Lions can stay as diverse with their scoring as they did at Norwell, there isn’t much that can be done to slow them. BOUNCE PICKS LEO
