Another edition of the in season girls basketball power poll is here.

Each Tuesday, you will get a new one! Who moved up? Who dropped? What surprises are there this week? I’m sure my Twitter followers will have all the smoke as usual.

No. 1 – Homestead Spartans

Records: 9-1, 4-0 SAC

Previous Rank: 1

Why #1?: There doesn’t appear to be a way to slow the Spartans at this point. Aside from Ayanna Patterson’s near dunk Friday that we almost got to see, it was a big week for the Spartans. The win over South Bend Washington was big for them and for Class 4A to dispatch the top team in 3A.

Why not higher?: It doesn’t happen.

Best win: South Bend Washington

No. 2 – Garrett Railroaders

Records: 9-1, 4-0 NECC

Previous Rank: 2

Why #2?: Garrett’s win over Norwell was monumental for them to show how much the Railroaders have grown since last season even if Norwell is younger. Morgan Ostrowski deserves all of the attention right now for what she has been doing lately.

Why not higher?: This remains more about how good Homestead is and not a knock on Garrett.

Best win: Norwell

No. 3 – Columbia City Eagles

Records: 10-0, 2-0 NE8

Previous Rank: 3

Why #3?: Still one of two unbeaten area teams, the Eagles have established themselves as the head of the NE8. Right now they are just rolling and it’s hard to see a game where they aren’t going to be the favorite for in the immediate future.

Why not higher?: Its close. Razor close.

Best win: Snider

No. 4 – Snider Panthers

Records: 7-2, 2-0 SAC

Previous Rank: 4

Why #4?: These girls have beaten powerhouses and probably have the best “best win” in the area. They are clicking well, the hierarchy is solid and as Jyah LoVett continues to pick it up, they are only going to get more dangerous.

Why not higher?: There are some losses that aren’t great right now.

Best wins: Fishers and North Central

No. 5 – Carroll Chargers

Records: 7-5, 2-1 SAC

Previous Rank: 5

Why #5?: Last weeks win over Warsaw showed that this group can respond when pushed. They don’t have the depth we are used to seeing from a Charger group, but they have to continue to use the players who are stepping up any given night.

Why not higher?: You know the drill, we need to see some higher quality wins. The SAC grind is going to give them that chance.

Best win: Northrop

No. 6 – Northrop Bruins

Records: 6-1, 3-1 SAC

Previous Rank: 6

Why #6?: Northrop has found some hierarchy and the Jackson Twins unsurprisingly have led that. The Bruins are still in this race for the SAC and have the ability to win any game left on their schedule, but will they?

Why not higher?: A major win alludes them still.

Best win: Bishop Luers

No. 7 – Fairfield Falcons

Records: 10-0, 4-0 NECC

Previous Rank: 7

Why #7?: The remain one of two area unbeaten teams. For Fairfield, we have to be continually impressed with the ability of a large variety of players stepping up into key roles. Fairfield had a tough NECC run left but they have been successful so far and have to be Garrett’s clear top challenge in conference.

Why not higher?: A lot could change quickly this week with two big games.

Best win: Angola

No. 8 – Warsaw Tigers

Records: 8-3, 2-0 NLC

Previous Rank: 8

Why #8?: Abby Sanner had one of the best double doubles you will ever see last week. She’s a machine who has few matches in this area or in the NLC.

Why not higher?: The loss to Carroll keeps them from moving up right now. That could change quickly this week too.

Best win: Norwell

No. 9 – Jay County Patriots

Records: 8-2, 2-0 ACAC

Previous Rank: 10

Why #9?: They have really been balanced and that is something that is great to see. Renna Schwieterman is still the top scorer in the ACAC but they have really built up around her. There is little reason to believe that they can’t run the table in the conference.

Why not higher?: Would love to see the Patriots have some bigger non conference wins but that ship may have sailed for now.

Best wins: Bellmont and Woodlan

No. 10 – Norwell Knights

Records: 8-3, 1-1 NE8

Previous Rank: 9

Why #10?: This team is very good. They have quality wins and we will see how they can bounce back after losses. Don’t expect to see Norwell slip too fall because this is a quality team that can still win the big games. Their three losses all come to teams above them on this list.

Why not higher?: A two loss week is a two loss week.

Best win: Huntington North
