Outside the Huddle and Blitz are counting down who they feel are the top 50 individual players in northeast Indiana heading into the 2021 season.
Our highest preseason honor, the third-annual First Eleven profiles the top players (in the mind of OTH) entering this fall.
No. 6: WR Rocco Ciocca, senior, Bishop Dwenger
Entering his junior year, Rocco Ciocca had just five career varsity receptions. So when he eclipsed that in Week 1 last year, going for six receptions, 127 yards and a pair of touchdowns, it caught many by surprise.
All doubts were silenced when he went for six and 127 a week later, eventually finishing the year with 752 yards receiving and nine touchdowns.
There may be no better wide receiver in the area when it comes to route running. Everything from in and out of breaks to creating space between himself and the defender is exceptional. Countless times last year, Ciocca was able to shake a defensive back and come back to the football when the quarterback was in trouble. His smarts on the field are top-rate. Ciocca always seems to know where the first-down marker is or where he needs to catch the ball to maximize yardage.
With a new QB set to take over the Bishop Dwenger offense, Ciocca will be huge as a safety net, the veteran wideout who at 6-foot-5, 205 pounds is a large target with exceptional hands.
COACH’S QUOTE ON ROCCO CIOCCA
“Rocco is a great leader. A team captain with an exceptional work ethic, he has a strong skill set at running routes, creating space and high pointing the football.” – Bishop Dwenger coach Jason Garrett
