Bounce’s Girls Hoops Power Poll for Week of December 14

Norwell’s Maiah Shelton drives to the basket during a December 12 game against Garrett.

No. 1 – Norwell

Records: 7-0 overall; 1-0 NE8; 2-0 vs. current Top 10

Previous Rank: 1

If there was any question about the top team, Norwell answered it loudly in overtime on Saturday. Possibly the best game of the season on the girls side saw Norwell shatter Garrett’s perfect season. The Knights are very tough and they get stops and get baskets when it matters most.

Best win: Garrett

No. 2 – Carroll

Records: 7-2 overall; 2-0 SAC; 1-0 vs. current Top 10

Previous Rank: 2

The Chargers remain out of action in quarantine so we don’t see them move this week. With some time left before they come back, don’t expect the thoughts or expectations for them to change. This basketball team is ready to make some more waves upon their return.

Best win: Homestead

No. 3 – South Side

Records: 5-1 overall; 3-0 SAC; 0-0 vs. current Top 10

Previous Rank: 3

South did get back going this week, suffering their first loss of the season. The good news, it wasn’t what you’d call a bad loss, even though it was lopsided against Heritage Christian. The Archers are settling in and if they can keep a consistent schedule, they are going to get more comfortable with their pacing.

Best win: Northridge

No. 4 – Garrett

Records: 9-1 overall; 4-0 NECC; 1-1 vs. current Top 10

Previous Rank: 5

Moving the Railroaders back up this week speaks volumes. Garrett lost their only game of the week but they had our number one team on the ropes for a long time on Saturday. A few things bounce differently and the Railroaders are unbeaten and maybe the top team in the area. That gives enough confidence to move them up, even with an 0-1 week.

Best win: Concordia Lutheran

No. 5 – Homestead

Records: 6-3 overall; 2-1 SAC; 0-1 vs. current Top 10

Previous Rank: 4

Homestead now has back to back wins after back to back losses. Their future schedule is no easy task so we have to gamble here: how much have the improved off those two overtime defeats? Positive here is it did take Carroll and South Bend Washington extra sessions to get wins. Homestead needs to keep building up weaknesses shown in their three losses.

Best win: Noblesville

No. 6 – Concordia Lutheran

Records: 7-2 overall; 2-0 SAC; 0-2 vs. current Top 10

Previous Rank: 6

A lone win against DeKalb doesn’t change anything for the Cadets, who could have possibly moved up had their game with Carroll not been cancelled on Friday. A conference game this week could help their stock.

Best win: Northrop

No. 7 – Jay County

Records: 8-1 overall; 1-0 ACAC; 1-0 vs. current Top 10

Previous Rank: 7

Beating the other top team in the conference has Jay County still rolling along and looking clearly like the team to beat in the ACAC. They have won seven in a row and don’t look to be letting up anytime soon. While they don’t have a schedule in place to see them rise much higher than this right now, it doesn’t look like they will lose their top 10 footing.

Best win: Bellmont

No. 8 – Bellmont

Records: 7-1 overall; 1-0 NE8; 0-1 vs. current Top 10

Previous Rank: 8

Quality wins against decent teams out of a layoff has made Bellmont a team we are thinking about again. They have a chance to really make a name for themselves against Garrett this week. Either way, the Squaws are in contention in a pretty balanced Northeast 8 and that wasn’t necessarily expected of them.

Best win: Adams Central

No. 9 – Lakeland

Records: 8-2 overall; 3-0 NECC; 0-0 vs. current Top 10

Previous Rank: NR

Welcome to the show Lakeland. The Lakers have earned this spot by being one of the hottest teams in the area right now, fresh off a win over previously ranked Fairfield. Lakeland’s trick is that their wins are solid, but not fantastic compared to what teams ranked higher than them have done. The Lakers have won six straight and are completely capable of running through the rest of their regular season games heading into a season ending meeting with Garrett.

Best win: Fairfield

No. 10 – Warsaw

Records: 7-2 overall; 1-0 NLC; 0-0 vs. current Top 10

Previous Rank: 9

Coming off two postponed games of their own, Warsaw will get back on the court this week and next with some not so easy ones. If the Tigers can head into next Tuesday without missing a beat, their game with Norwell could have major ranking implications.

Best win: Snider

IN THE ARGUMENT (in no particular order)
