A big week on the ground. An upset win for his team. Those were the factors that helped make Northrop Bruin Damarius Cowen your choice a the Week 1 Player of the Night.
Against Homestead last Friday night, Cowen ran for 281 yards on an astounding 37 carries. Four of those carries were touchdowns in a 24-20 upset win over the Spartans. That night earned Cowen 29.25 percent of the over 5,200 votes cast in the first FAN CHOICE of the regular season.
Cowen beat out other nominees: Rowan Zolman of East Noble, TJ Bedwell of Columbia City, Aaron Greene of Warsaw, Mason Englert of Carroll, Tucker Hasselman of Angola, John Michael Fabini of Bishop Dwenger, Duce Taylor of North Side, Laban Davis of Eastside, James Arnold of South Adams, Braeden Hardwick of Homestead and Amir Drew of Concordia Lutheran.
