Nico Tigulis steps down as Heritage football coach

Heritage Patriot head football coach Nico Tigulis has stepped down from his position in the program following the end of the team’s season last Friday.

Tigulis spent four years as the head coach at Heritage, where he went 8-33. This season, Tigulis’ Patriots were 2-9, but did notch him his only postseason win with a 29-8 Sectional opening round with over Northwestern. The team lost last Friday, November 1 at Peru in the Sectional semifinal round.

“Just need a break. Need some time to rest, reflect and spend time with my family,” Tigulis told Outside the Huddle of the reasoning behind his decision.

Tigulis wouldn’t rule out a return to the sideline at some point, noting that he looks forward to coaching his kids at some point.

A graduate of Homestead, Tigulis spent a decade as an assistant coach at Carroll before landing the Heritage job in 2016. He will depart Heritage as just their third coach in nearly 40 years. Heritage officially becomes the first coaching vacancy in the area to need filled before the 2020 season.
