Despite Columbia City having a roster that was deep both last season and now into 2019-2020, it is Olivia Shearer who has separated herself as being the most multi-dimensional. Shearer is an underrated rebounder and a solid passer who is clearly a student of the game.
Most impressive of all her attributes is Shearer’s shooting and there is a reason she is the top returning scorer from a year ago with 10 points per game. Shearer hit a rare 40/40/90 split as a junior by hitting 43 percent of her shots, including 41 percent from three point range and a more than strong 96 percent from the foul line. Shearer is a patient shooter, who’s form is near impeccable. Opposing teams know it, yet she almost always continues to find and create space to hit important shots.
Shearer certainly isn’t hampered by being an offensively dimensional player only though. She is a tough defender on the wing and a big part of traps that help the Eagles get stops and generate some instant offense.
“[Olivia is] our best shooter and passer,” says Columbia City coach Amy Shearer. “[A] good ball handler, sees the floor well and understands the game.”
