Top 50 Boys Hoops: #50 Joel Knox

Kicking off our look at the Top 50 boys basketball players in the area heading into the 2019-2020 season takes us first to the NECC and one of the many contenders in that conference: Angola. And why not start with the guy who will work hard to make sure you notice him first as the first person we mention.

Joel Knox is coming off a season where he averaged nine points, six rebounds and a steal per game while shooting 52.5 percent inside the arc and 75 percent from the free throw line. Knox is a tenacious player who has the ability to change the game in a numbers of ways and showed during his sophomore season that there really isn’t much that is out of his comfort zone.

With a good jump on college interest after his sophomore season, Knox will be able to play a lot of positions on the floor. At 6-foot-3, coach Ed Bentley says he will run both point guard and 2-guard, but is capable of defending almost every position on the floor due to length and aggression. His is a tough nosed defender that is willing to guard the opposing team’s toughest player without blinking an eye.

“Joel has and is coming into his own as a player.  Joel emerged last year as an All-Area guard and is just getting better and better,” Bentley says. “Joel is fearless and demands to guard the other teams’ best players.  Joel has great range and the uncanny ability to shoot at different angles and from all spots on the floor.  Joel distributes the ball and sees the floor as good as anyone.”
