Top 50 Girls Hoops: #49 Maggie Cheever

Maggie Cheever returns as Bishop Dwenger’s leading rebounder for her junior season after pulling down 5.9 rebounds and putting up 6.4 points (third on team) in 2018-19. It is highly likely that she ups both of those averages this season as the focus in the Summit Athletic Conference could start a little more to the post game.

Scoring in double digits on six occasions a season ago, Cheever plays poised in the paint with her long frame. She is one to take her time and is patient with her offensive efforts. She scored 18 points against Snider and pulled down a season best 13 rebounds against Huntington North.

While those were her best numbers, two of her more eye opening appearances were her 10 rebounds against a feisty interior of Concordia in Sectional play and her eight point, seven rebound, three block performance in a regular season upset of Carroll.

“Maggie has been the most improved player this off-season. She is getting stronger, more aggressive, and is quickly gaining confidence,” new Bishop Dwenger coach Steve Wiktorowski says. “She will be much more of an inside presence on both ends of the floor this year.”
