Announcing Bounce’s OTH Top 50 basketball rankings

bounceinset_21Basketball season is going to be here before you know it. In fact, basketball coverage at Outside the Huddle for the 2019-2020 season is starting this Friday, September 20? Why so early? Because Bounce is kicking off his first ever player countdown.

Inspired by similar player rankings seen on national websites, Outside the Huddle has spent countless hours since last basketball season has ended to compile to the Top 50 girls and Top 50 boys basketball players in the area.

These lists have been compiled using player statistics, college offer and interest information, as well as opinions from numerous area experts and coaches. All those things played a role, as did the ultimate judgement for Outside the Huddle, the Bounce “eye test” based on evaluation of in person and video analysis of the best players in this area.

Big point to make here: these are returning varsity players, proven on the varsity level. You will see NO players from the freshman class. Why? As good as they may be, it is impossible to judge their high school prowess fairly against others. You will also not see players who were primarily JV players in 2018-19.

The girls countdown begins on September 20 and the boys will start October 8 with each countdown ending in the naming of our highest preseason honor: the second annual ‘First Five’ teams, naming the best five players of each gender heading into the new season; a traditional rich in its years in Northeast Indiana long before Outside the Huddle took it over in 2018.

These rankings, they won’t make everyone happy. That much should go without saying. But we’ve worked hard to make sure they are as true as possible. And in the end, Bounce trusts his eye and ability to be subjective and fair as he sure has seen a LOT of basketball in the past 12 months. So have fun with them, enjoy them and best of all, let us all just celebrate that Outside the Huddle is helping kick off basketball season a bit earlier than normal.
