BounceInset_2It is the best single day of all of high school basketball season in the state of Indiana. Teams have to win two games in one day and that doesn’t happen much. When it does happen, it is likely a conference tournament. But this Saturday, you have to beat two high quality teams, top talented teams in one day.

Last season, we had two Regional champions with Westview and Blackhawk Christian and both of those squads will look to do the same again this season.

But are the other five area schools left open to pull off surprises? It is fair to say that each of those other five (Northrop, Huntington North, Angola, Bluffton and Southern Wells) already pulled off at least one upset in the Sectional round.

SECTIONAL FINALS: 6-2

THIS SEASON: 117-54

CLASS 4A AT LOGANSPORT

CARMEL VS. NORTHROP, 10 A.M.

There is a sizable part of the me that wants to say that Northrop is the team who could upset Carmel in this postseason. Sydney Curry is a man among boys. So can be John Michael Mulloy. I know Northrop doesn’t think Bounce is a fan of theirs — looking at you Asst. Coach Pickens! — but I truly am. There are a lot of fun pieces for the Bruins and they have nothing to lose against the state’s top team. If Northrop shoots the ball well, they could make some waves. That said, can they make enough? Carmel is in the position they are in for a reason. Bounce picks Carmel

HUNTINGTON NORTH VS. ZIONSVILLE, NOON

Every single sign points to Zionsville. They are the favorite in this game on the state level. Eagles guard Isaiah Thompson is the best player in this game. But there is just something about the Vikings. Aside from their three point prowess, their ability to find X-factor players like Jordan Hollowell and their post presence of Sawyer Stoltz and Hank Pulver, there is still something I just can’t put my finger on that makes them stay in the forefront of my mind. Aren’t those the most fun kind of teams? Bounce picks Huntington North

CHAMPIONSHIP, 8 P.M.

As much as getting this far in the postseason adds to any team’s hunger, there is nothing that can make a program more motivated that being in the championship seat and losing it. Carmel has enough guys that know the cruel fate of a red ribboned second place medal. I like Luke Heady to just out will everyone. Bounce picks Carmel

CLASS 3A AT MARION

ANGOLA VS. MARION, 10 A.M.

Both teams have size and strength and Bounce would love to see this come down to power verus power and see who is more….well, powerful. But I think that both coaches are too smart for that because of how different their size plays. Angola has more finesse players while Marion plays with power and athleticism in the post. Jalen Blackmon and JK Thomas are comfortable in this gym; that is bad news. Bounce picks Marion

DELTA VS. TIPPECANOE VALLEY, NOON

The Vikings have to be proud to come out of a Sectional that was so evenly matched. They played intelligent basketball, avoided the pitfalls that caught up to teams more suited as favorites and earned their spot in this round. But Delta has a zero in their record for a reason as the state’s last unbeaten. That reason is Josh Bryan — or at least he is one of the reasons. Bounce picks Delta

CHAMPIONSHIP, 8 P.M.

After Delta’s run last week in the circumstances and environment they had to win in, there doesn’t seem to be much that can rattle them. The environment at Marion is a rattling one usually. Bounce picks Delta

CLASS 2A AT NORTH JUDSON-SAN PIERRE

MARQUETTE CATHOLIC VS. ANDREAN, 10 A.M.

Marquette Catholic’s Colin Keeney is an exceptional scorer and could rival Westview’s Charlie Yoder as the best offensive player in this Regional. Overall, Andrean is the better team and I will make that clear. But will their lack of experience hurt them? And can they slow Keeney? Those are two tough questions that nobody can answer before 10 a.m. Bounce picks Marquette Catholic

WESTVIEW VS. BLUFFTON, 11:30 A.M.

Bluffton should be commended for what they have done in their basketball programs this season. The boys supported the girls in their run and the girls have done the same. Having in school support means the world and that has been shown in the Tigers’ runs to Sectional titles. Westview is just on a different level on the court. No shame in that for Bluffton, the Warriors are the class of most fields they are in. Bounce picks Westview

CHAMPIONSHIP, 7 P.M.

Remember what I said above about Keeney? Charlie Yoder is better. In fact, Bounce isn’t sure that I have seen a player as smooth, confident and clutch on offense as Yoder has been all season, especially the postseason. That includes the Blackhawk Brave pictured below. Yoder is on a different level for Class 2A and Westview is on a mission after being a game away from Banker’s Life a season ago. Bounce picks Westview

CLASS 1A AT TRITON

ARGOS VS. COVENANT CHRISTIAN, 10 A.M.

On paper, this looks good but Covenant Christian are big time scorers and we have to know if Argos can slow down a team that has two different 20-plus point per game scorers. Stopping Ben Lins and Gavin Herrema both is not something that just any team can do. Bounce picks Covenant Christian

BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN VS. GARY 21ST CENTURY, NOON

It would be nice to say that Gary 21st Century narrowed the gap since last season with the Braves replacing so many pieces from last season’s Regional champion. It wold be a lie. Bounce picks Blackhawk Christian

CHAMPIONSHIP, 7:30 P.M.

The further that Blackhawk Christian gets in the postseason, the tougher their opponents will be. That is a duh statement. But being better than losing by an average of 64 points per game doesn’t mean much. Its not a question to Bounce of if the Braves win, but by how much on Saturday. Bounce picks Blackhawk Christian

CLASS 1A AT FRANKFORT

SOUTHERN WELLS VS. NORTH VERMILLION, 10 A.M.

These are two pretty experienced teams that could make for an interesting game. Both teams have first year head coaches who will really want to make their mark. Bounce picks North Vermillion

RANDOLPH SOUTHERN VS. LAFAYETTE CENTRAL CATHOLIC, 11:30 A.M.

This is not a great match up, especially if LCC can get going from three point range. They have a lot of guys who can hurt you in a variety of ways and Randolph Southern will struggle to compete with their size I think. Bounce picks Lafayette Central Catholic

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, 8 P.M.

Lafayette Central Catholic is probably the second best Class 1A team in the northern part of the state and Carson Barrett is the best player in this Regional. The recipe is there if they can finish. Bounce picks Lafayette Central Catholic
