On Sunday on the IHSAA Network, pairings for Sectional play were announced. Sectionals across the state start on Tuesday, January 29.
Outside the Huddle will have full Sectional previews next weekend, starting on January 26 and running through Monday, January 28. Until then, here are the pairings that include teams from the Northeast Indiana coverage area.
CLASS 4A
Sectional 5 at DeKalb
Carroll and Snider will rematch four days after they play in the regular season as they draw a Tuesday game against each other. The winner will face East Noble in a semi final on Friday. On the top end of the bracket, host DeKalb will face Northrop on Tuesday with the winner playing North Side on Friday.
Sectional 6 at Homestead
There will be no repeat first round meeting between Homestead and South Side. In fact, the teams wouldn’t play until the finals if they both get there.
Instead, South Side will play the lone game during the week as they face Huntington North. The winner of that one will face Muncie Central on Friday in one semi final. In the other semi final, Homestead will face Wayne.
CLASS 3A
Sectional 21 at West Noble
The Chargers will take on NECC for Fairfield on Tuesday with the winner taking on #10 NorthWood on Friday in the semi finals. On the top half of the bracket, Lakeland will face Wawasee with the winner facing Tippecanoe Valley on Friday night.
Sectional 22 at Concordia
Woodlan got the bye in this seven team Sectional. They will face the winner of host Concordia and Bishop Dwenger on Friday night. Concordia and Bishop Dwenger will play on Tuesday. The bottom half of the bracket will see Garrett face New Haven and Leo to face Angola, both on Wednesday. Five of the seven teams have winning records, but Leo as one of those teams without a winning record, did beat Angola earlier this season.
Sectional 23 at Norwell
This year’s argument of seeding postseason play comes as Norwell and Bellmont will match up on Tuesday at the top half of the bracket. The two teams that just battled in one of the area’s best games this year will play again two weeks later. The winner will advance to face Heritage on Friday night.
On the bottom half of the bracket with Wednesday games, Marion will play Bishop Luers and Columbia City will face Mississinewa with the winners facing on Friday. All seven teams in this bracket have winning records with Columbia City’s 12-10 record being the worst.
Sectional 24 at New Castle
ACAC champion Jay County will face Delta on Wednesday with the winner facing the winner of New Castle and Blackford in Friday’s semi final. On the other side of the bracket, Yorktown and Hamilton Heights will play Tuesday for the right to play Muncie Burris on Friday. 5 of the 7 teams have winning records, with Jay County having the best record.
CLASS 2A
Sectional 34 at Central Noble
The host Cougars, who are ranked #1 in Class 2A and are the defending champions of this Sectional and the state, will play NECC opponent Westview on Tuesday night with the winner heading to Friday’s semi final opposite Whitko and big time rebounder Ellie Snep.
On the bottom of the bracket, Bremen and LaVille will play Tuesday with the rights to play Prairie Heights on Friday after the Panthers drew a bye.
Sectional 36 at Bluffton
Bluffton will host as they defend their Sectional title starting on Tuesday against Eastside. The Winner will play Churubusco on Friday in the semi final round. On the bottom of the bracket, Adams Central will play a Canterbury team that has played a limited schedule this season. The winner will play South Adams on Friday in the other semi final.
Sectional 37 at Manchester
Manchester will be on the bottom of the bracket against Rochester. A win will send them to the semi final opposite Lewis Cass on Friday. On the top half of the bracket, 16 win Oak Hill, #3 in the state, will play North Miami with the winner advancing to play Wabash on Friday.
CLASS 1A
Sectional 52 at Fremont
Blackhawk Christian (9-12) and Lakewood Park (6-11) will battle on Wednesday of this Sectional. The two teams played on Friday with the Braves winning 52-45. Lakewood Park is the defending sectional champion. The winner will play the winner of Bethany Christian and Hamilton.
Fremont (11-8) will face Lakeland Christian on Tuesday with the winner facing Elkhart Christian on Friday.
Sectional 55 at Southern Wells
The host Raiders (5-16) received one of the two byes to Friday night and the semi finals. They will face the winner of Tuesday’s game between Wes-Del and Cowan.
