The annual Summit Athletic Conference Holiday Tournaments will run from December 26-29 at Wayne High School. This year’s tournaments will have a bit of a different layout than recent ones due to Homestead girls’ inclusion in December 28’s Hall of Fame Classic in New Castle.
On the boys side, Snider has earned the top seed and one of two byes straight to the quarterfinals where they will play the winner of Concordia (8) and Bishop Luers (9). Carroll will get the second seed and the other bye to a quarterfinal against the winner of Wayne (7) and North Side (10).
The boys tournament will run three days starting with the traditional Wednesday and Thursday set ups. On Friday, December 28, both the semi final and final rounds of the boys bracket will be played. The tournament used to play semi finals and finals on the same day, but that format was dropped during the time the conference dropped from 10 teams to eight teams.
Last year, North Side won their fifth straight holiday tournament title with a win over South Side. North Side’s Lucas Kroft was the only person to join the top scorers list in the tournament with his 32 points against Concordia in the quarterfinals. This season’s top seed, Snider, lost in the quarterfinals to South Side by three points in one of the tournament’s best games.

On the girls side, Homestead unsurprisingly will be the top seed once again. They will earn a bye to Thursday where they will play the winner of Snider (8) and North Side (9). The number two seed goes to defending champion South Side. The Archers will face the winner of Northrop (7) and Wayne (10).
The girls tournament will keep their natural format on Wednesday and Thursday. The last four teams remaining will then take Friday off completely. The girls semi finals and finals will all be played on Saturday, December 29.
Last year, South Side used the force of a double double from now-graduated Taniece Chapman to beat Carroll for the tournament title. This year’s top seed, Homestead, was also the top seed last year before they were upset in the quarterfinals against Bishop Luers. It was Homestead’s first loss to a SAC team since joining the conference.
