Wayne’s Craig Young will not play basketball this season

OutsideTheHuddle.net has confirmed, as of November 30, that Wayne senior Craig Young will not play basketball for the school this season.

This change comes after Young had been practicing with the team in the preseason as was set to return to the team for his senior season. Wayne opens their season tomorrow, December 1, at Culver Academy.

Young, who was named a member of the Outside the Huddle ‘First Five’ earlier this month, was an Indiana Junior All-Star last season. He led the Generals with 17.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game as a junior. During the preseason, Young told Outside the Huddle that he was confident in his Wayne basketball team featuring “a lot of good guys that nobody has even heard of yet.”

A commitment to Ohio State for football came in June prior to his senior season on the gridiron. As a senior, Young caught 35 passes for 700 yards and 12 touchdowns, all team highs. He averaged 20 yards per catch, 58.3 yards per game and his longest reception of the year was 90 yards. Young also registered 42 tackles, including 10 for loss and had 5.5 sacks.

There is a possibility that Young will graduate early from Wayne and head to Ohio State in January, also forgoing a high school senior season in track and field.

On the basketball court, Wayne was picked as the preseason #10 team by Outside the Huddle.
