It was a week full of important performances, led by Outside the Huddle’s largest list of nominees yet. In the end, it was a homecoming night performance from Snider’s Jon Barnes Jr. that made him the Week 7 Player of the Night sponsored by Ellen Vance of Caliber Home Loans.
Barnes Jr. had what has been highly regarded as somewhat of a coming out party in the 48-21 win over Northrop at the two teams’ shared venue of Spuller Stadium. The junior quarterback was 10-of-14 for 157 yards and three touchdowns on the night. A pair of his scores came on 35 and 36 yard strikes to Elijah Maxwell and Simon Dellinger.
Barnes Jr. registered 33 percent of the fan vote.
He is the third straight quarterback to win the fan vote for Player of the Night, joining Columbia City’s Gregory Bolt (week 6) and Woodlan’s Ben Reidy (week 5). Barnes Jr. is the first player from the Summit Athletic Conference to earn the honor this season.
Other nominees included North Side’s Theo Redmond, Bluffton’s Everett Johnson, South Side’s Omar Jackson, Homestead’s Griffin Little, Churubusco’s Nathaniel Keener, Eastside’s Caleb Vanover, Wayne’s Brandan Young, Adams Central’s Logan Macklin and Bishop Dwenger’s T.J. Tippmann.
Voting for the Outside the Huddle Player of the Night for prep football opens each Saturday morning and runs through the following Monday night with the winner being announced each Tuesday on OutsidetheHuddle.net
