Top 50 Girls Hoops: #21 Lamyia Woodson

South Side will return a big part of their lineup for the 2019-2020 season and forward Lamyia Woodson will be back for her third season of varsity basketball. If the growth for her between seasons one and two is any indication, Woodson could become a major force in her time remaining at the high school level.

Woodson was the Archers’ leading rebounder last season at 6.5 per game and will be one of the best juniors across the Summit Athletic Conference this season. While having just four games with 10-plus rebounds per game, the more impressive part is her consistency with just four games where she had less than five rebounds. Woodson is a pure force on the glass and a physical specimen that drew her a lot of college attention. That led to her committing this fall to Youngstown State before ever playing a game of her junior season.

One of the best elements of Woodson is her work on the offensive glass. She rebounds the ball strong, is comfortable taking a gathering, power dribble but also has a soft touch at the rim for her outback baskets. That soft touch also helps Woodson in a nice baby jumper from the short corner that she has developed.

“Lamyia Woodson will be one of the best post players in the area. She worked very hard to learn from her first full year of varsity and has committed to the game she needs to bring every night,” South Side coach Lamyia Woodson says. “We look for her to be big on the boards for us this season.”

  1. “Lamiyah Woodson is one of the areas most improved players. She has worked hard on the parts of her game that needed improving and has made herself an outstanding post player. Look for her to dominate on both ends of the floor this season.”
