Multiple sources have indicated to Outside the Huddle that Jay County will officially hire Donna Buckley as their next girls basketball head coach on Monday, April 13. Buckley has a career record of 382-231 over 26 seasons as a head girls basketball coach. She ranks 13th in all-time wins among active coaches in the state of Indiana.

She will become the 6th different head coach for Jay County in the past 25 seasons.

Buckley resigned as the Noblesville girls basketball coach in Mid-March after 18 seasons. During that time, Buckley posted a record of 275-148. This past season, the Millers were just 9-12, one of just four years without a winning record for Buckley with the program.

Around those rare missteps however were four Sectional titles, a regional crown in the 2023-24 season and 2021-2022’s state title during a career best 25-4 season. Buckley helped to transforme the program with 13 winning seasons at Noblesville.

Buckley has won 20 or more games five times in her career, all at Noblesville. While the Millers struggled at times last season, Buckley led them to 19 and 18 wins respectively in the two seasons prior. Her hiring marks a significant one for the Jay County program.

In 2020, she was an assistant coach for the Indiana All-Stars.

Prior to going to Noblesville in 2008, Buckley spent seven seasons leading Greenfield-Central. In those seven seasons, she was 97-72 while capturing a Sectional title in 2003-2004, which was the first year for the program in Class 4A.

She started her head coaching career with a one year stint at South Side in Fort Wayne, going 10-11 in 2000-2001 before leaving for Greenfield-Central. While next year’s schedule has yet to be released, Jay County has started their season against South Side in each of the last five years. She also spent time as the JV coach at South Adams, while teaching there.

Buckley will teach in the school at Jay County, sources say. She has been a Wellness Teacher at Noblesbille, a role she also had previously at Greenfield-Central and South Adams.

Jay County was 16-8 last season in the third and final season under Sherri McIntyre, who resigned after the season.

The program will return both of their leading scorers with sisters senior-to-be Hallie Schwieterman and sophomore-to-be Karsyn Schwieterman and third leading scorer in junior-to-be Liz Brunswick. Jay County lost just one senior, Raylah Newton, and will return over 90 percent of their scoring and nearly 88 percent of their rebounding.
