Another week, another chance to be great.
Each week, Bounce will pick (around) 10 games on the girls side and another (around) 10 on the boys side. Looking to highlight the big games and the best matchups in the area. Unlike Blitz, we can’t quite pick every game because we don’t get to only play on Fridays, am I right?
Again this week, the picks will only focus on the girls side until boys season starts up on Thanksgiving week.
If you know how Bounce picks, you know its different than that prognosticating bear in the fall. No projected scores or spreads here. Basketball is too unpredictable for silliness like that.
LAST WEEK: 9-0 (DeKalb vs. Lakeland moved to later in the season)
LAST SEASON: 136-66
LAKEWOOD PARK AT FREMONT, TUESDAY
Both of these teams will head into the second week unbeaten. The Eagles have a couple of harder stops for the Panthers in this one, though it is important to note Lakewood Park had a really good defensive opening week and will only get better. Grace Scharlach was dominant offensively last week for Fremont and all signs point to that continuing. BOUNCE PICKS FREMONT
HUNTINGTON NORTH AT SNIDER, TUESDAY
The Vikings make a trip to play 1-2 Snider, but don’t let that record make you believe that the Panthers are down. Janaya Cooper and Izzie Eke both had really good weeks and those losses were to Warsaw (Cooper had 20) and McCutcheon (Eke had 16). BOUNCE PICKS SNIDER
HERITAGE AT GARRETT, TUESDAY
Both of these teams will be search of their first wins of the season, with Garrett showing some early promise in the first half of their opening loss to Woodlan. Expect Sarah DePew to follow up her double double effort against the Warriors with another strong effort here. BOUNCE PICKS GARRETT
WARSAW AT NORTHROP, TUESDAY
The Tigers prepare for their third big area test in a week when they return to Fort Wayne after beating Snider last week. The Bruins are a team that is going to play them very tough defensively and this is one that comes down to how well you pressure the Warsaw shooters. Expect another fun one. BOUNCE PICKS WARSAW
BELLMONT AT CONCORDIA, TUESDAY
Coming off a 30 point game to end last week, Concordia’s Alivia Bolinger looks like she may have settled in to the new season just fine. Her scoring punch gives Concordia a fighting chance every night and this is a first real chance to see what Bellmont has into the new season. BOUNCE PICKS BELLMONT
ANGOLA AT WOODLAN, TUESDAY
The new faces at Angola have shined with two opening week wins, so to see what they can do on the interior in this road game could be a real head turner. A week ago, I don’t know that Bounce would have felt the same way, but maybe there is some early surprise buy in for the Hornets. BOUNCE PICKS ANGOLA
EASTSIDE AT FREMONT, FRIDAY
An early one between two of the presumed top teams in the NECC. It is big for conference momentum. While Fremont’s identity seems clear, we are still learning about the offensive tiers of the Blazers. Last week’s win was a big indicator that they could be deeper than even most of us outside the program expected. BOUNCE PICKS EASTSIDE
COLUMBIA CITY AT WHITKO, FRIDAY
Speaking of teams with new identities versus one we already know. Columbia City’s opening game shows us that they are still going to be strong, but Whitko is expected to make a run this year in Class 2A. This is a game that really should be a rivalry in the county, with Columbia City the winners of the past eight in the series. BOUNCE PICKS WHITKO
PIKE AT HOMESTEAD, SATURDAY
Here is that first fun test for the Spartans. Pike returns their top 4 scorers from a 20 win season, so in ways are right in line with Homestead in having a tough, very good and experienced core. Marley Jeffers can be a problem on the inside and will have to be one of the primary targets for Homestead’s defense. BOUNCE PICKS HOMESTEAD
EAST NOBLE AT BLUFFTON, SATURDAY
Bluffton has some fight in them and they showed it with a good bounce back after a tough county loss earlier last week. East Noble also opened with a win and a really impressive diversity in their scoring, from 16 points from Averi Amstutz on down. BOUNCE PICKS EAST NOBLE
