Today, we head into the Annual First Five and the top preseason honor given out for basketball by Outside the Huddle.

No. 2 – VANESSA ROSSWURM – NORWELL

Rosswurm has solidified herself as the driving force behind Norwell’s landmark Class 3A state championship run. Averaging 22.4 points per game, she not only ranks as one of the area’s most prolific scorers but also beat Norwell’s single-game scoring record with a 43-point performance versus Concordia. She will be the only returning player in Northeast Indiana who averaged over 20 points per game last season. Her impact isn’t limited to scoring — she contributes across the board, recording roughly 6.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and about 3.2 steals per contest, making her a full-spectrum threat. Rosswurm has also been honored with selection to the 2025 Indiana Girls Junior All-Stars and was an OTH All-Area selection. As her game continues to grow, Rosswurm is emerging as one of Indiana’s rising stars in girls basketball — someone capable of carrying her team, generating matchup problems, and influencing both ends of the floor.

Coach’s Quote on Vanessa:

“Vanessa impacts the game in many ways at an elite level.  She leads the same way every day…she shows up, brings energy, and competes as hard as she can.  While Vanessa is known for her skill and motor, it’s her ability to move on to the next play that helps bring our team through the really tough moments.  Vanessa’s mentality at the top of our 1-3-1 and at the point guard position sets the tone for how we want to attack on every possession.” – Norwell coach Eric Thornton
