Each season, the culmination of the Outside the Huddle Top 50 player countdown is the naming of our annual First Five, the highest preseason honor for OTH basketball coverage.

The First Five traces its lineage back to The News-Sentinel’s years of presenting “Fabulous Five” teams of the area’s best five players in both boys and girls basketball. This player is part of our seventh season of naming First Five players.

No. 5 – Drelyn Truesdale, Bishop Luers

Truesdale is an electric talent for Bishop Luers, having averaged 15.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game last season. As one half of the dominant twin combo, his athleticism sets him apart on both ends of the court. His rebounding ability is exceptional for a guard, and his transition play is equally impressive. Truesdale has a natural gift for grabbing boards and immediately pushing the ball up the floor, whether to set up the offense or finish strong in transition.

His speed and fluidity on the court make him a constant threat, and it’s hard not to marvel at how he improves during the course of a game. His ball-handling skills and ability to impact the game in multiple ways only add to his growing reputation as one of the most well-rounded and dynamic players in the area.

COACH’S QUOTE ON TRUESDALE

“Drelyn has the ability to take over games in multiple ways. Drelyn has worked extremely hard in the offseason to get physically stronger and continue to grow as a leader on and off the court. He sees the floor and makes plays, both for himself and teammates, that very few high school guards are capable of. Drelyn led us in most categories as a junior and I look for him to raise his game to an even higher level as a Senior.” – Bishop Luers coach Seth Coffing
