Picks from the Pond for the week of November 4

Oh we are so back! It is game week again in the 260 and plenty of girls basketball games are ready for week one of action. This season, I was even feeling a bit…different…so I have renamed this weekly treat from Bounce’s Picks to the more cozy Picks from the Pond.

This week and for a couple more, Bounce will break down and predict the top and/or most relevant games in the area for girls basketball. Once the boys start playing the week of Thanksgiving, Bounce’s picks will then be split between the two with 5 (or more) girls games and 5 (or more) boys games being featured and prognosticated each Monday.

If you know how Bounce picks, you know its different than that prognosticating bear in the fall. No projected scores or spreads here. Basketball is too unpredictable for silliness like that.

So lets see how I do to tip things off…

DeKalb at Bishop Luers, Tuesday

One of the area’s first games of the season will be an intriguing one. What does the new look Bishop Luers have? Project one will be trying to slow down Ashley Cox and her high volume of pretty much everything all over the court. BOUNCE PICKS DEKALB

Norwell at Tippecanoe Valley, Tuesday

Tippy Valley is coming off a really nice run of 11 straight winning seasons with 19 wins just last season. But, their one scorer who averaged double digits last season graduated and the Vikings have a new coach leading the way. Norwell graduated some too, but Eric Thornton is a GOAT on the sideline. So while Norwell may have some growing pains, Bounce has a good feeling that they’ll be alright. BOUNCE PICKS NORWELL

Warsaw at North Side, Wednesday

This one may be pretty lopsided, but lets be clear that both teams have some things to be excited about this season. For North Side, the long term season goals may not be as far reaching as the powerful Warsaw, but the Legends aren’t in the dumps either. It will be great to see Warsaw get their feet wet before a big one over the weekend. BOUNCE PICKS WARSAW

Fremont at Canterbury, Thursday

Another one where the outcome probably isn’t in much question. The important part here: picking a Canterbury girls basketball game. It is great that the Cavaliers will put a varsity team back on the court this season and begin an attempted climb back to their once great ranks. BOUNCE PICKS FREMONT

Columbia City at Carroll, Saturday

This one could be a doozy that comes down to depth. Carroll certainly has more back, but lets not pretend like Columbia City and coach Amy Shearer don’t know how to reload. It is unlikely Carroll has an answer for Addison Baxter, but hot take…does Columbia City have anyone to stop Lily George inside? Big momentum opener for these two. BOUNCE PICKS COLUMBIA CITY

Bishop Luers at Central Noble, Saturday

This game is always a fun one and the trip to Albion is well worth is for one of the first weekend games of the new season. This isn’t Bishop Luers’ opener and that is a nice advantage to have. Winning in Albion won’t be easy a lot of times this season, but with what the Cougars have back, winning opening Saturday is harder. BOUNCE PICKS CENTRAL NOBLE

Warsaw at Norwell, Saturday

Circle this one from the get go. Two of the best powerhouse programs in the area going head to head in week one…and in the famed Castle no less? Sign Bounce up. I like Norwell’s chances of having a great season in the NE8, but right now to start things, Warsaw is on a completely different level than almost any team in Northeast Indiana. BOUNCE PICKS WARSAW
