At a board meeting on Monday, April 22, Logan Traylor was announced as the new boys basketball coach for Garrett High School after a search to replace Andrew Evertts.
tTraylor comes into the role with coaching experience at multiple levels including as an assistant for the Snider boys program, at DeKalb, at Huntington University, with the Fort Wayne Flite (semi-pro CBA league) and as a founder, director and and head coach at Summit City Elite.
“I couldn’t be more blessed and excited to be in the position I am in. It’s always been a goal to be a head coach at the high school level and for it to be happening is so surreal. I owe a lot to so many coaches and players who have helped not only shape me as a coach, but as a person as well. Without their knowledge and care for me, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” Traylor told Outside the Huddle.
Evertts went 15-54 in three seasons leading Garrett after joining the program following time at North Montgomery, Mississinewa and Medora. The Railroaders went 5-18 in each of the seasons under Evertts.
Garrett last turned a winning record in 2013-2014 under John Bodey, who is now the girls basketball coach at the school. They won a Sectional under Bodey in 2008-2009, which was also their last postseason title in the program. Garrett has had four coaches in the previous ten seasons with Bodey followed by Seth Coffing, Bryan Leverenz and Evertts.
Garrett’s championship history is deep with 20 Sectional titles and five Regional titles with the last of those coming in 2004.
The Railroaders lose four players to graduation, but return seniors-to-be Parker Reed and Jakob Hoover as well as sophomores-to-be Kohen Smith and Carter Coffman.
“The main goal for our program is to establish a culture of pursing excellence and growth every day we get the opportunity to be together,” Traylor said. “We want a program that players will love and that our community will be proud of.”
