Each season, the culmination of the Outside the Huddle Top 50 player countdown is the naming of our annual First Five, the highest preseason honor for OTH basketball coverage.
The First Five traces its lineage back to The News-Sentinel’s years of presenting “Fabulous Five” teams of the area’s best five players in both boys and girls basketball. This player is part of our sixth season of naming First Five players.
No. 5 – Kyndra Sheets, Columbia City
Sheets was an All-State player last year while helping lead Columbia City to a Northeast 8 Conference title while averaging 14.3 points and 3.5 assists per game. Her passing prowess and general court vision was critical in close games, scoring numerous game winning assists or baskets along the way. Sheets also shot 88 percent from the free throw line and was a player who was never afraid to get to the rim into contact to end up at the free throw line in the process. Sheets also contributed three rebounds per game as a scrappy performer who is committed everywhere she is on the court; that rebounding effort has helped the Eagles get off and go as she can easily and does grab a defensive board and take off up court to get the Columbia City offense going strong.
COACH’S QUOTE ON SHEETS:
